[EDISTO ISLAND] – The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) is set to open a new fishing pier at the Steamboat Public Boat Landing on Edisto Island. Located on Steamboat Creek, the structure replaces a wooden pier that had been closed for a year.
The new fishing pier at Steamboat Public Boat Landing features sustainable aluminum decking, wood composite railings, concrete pilings, and is now ADA-compliant, allowing for anglers in wheelchairs. The pier stretches into 22-foot deep waters on Steamboat Creek.
The pier’s replacement was made possible by the Shore-Based Saltwater Fishing Access Grant from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Grant funds were made possible through the sale of saltwater fishing licenses.
CCPRC will host a grand-reopening ceremony for the Steamboat Public Boat Landing Fishing Pier on Friday, Feb. 8 at 11 a.m.
Steamboat Public Boat Landing is located at Steamboat Landing Road on Edisto Island, coordinates: 32º36’08.34” N / 80º17’ 34.88”W. Free for public use, the boat landing is one of 19 in the Charleston area managed by the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission.
