[MOUNT PLEASANT] – The Mount Pleasant Pier is introducing a new event in their popular summer dance series! Ages 21 and up are invited to do some shag dancing on the pier at Thursday Night Boogie, a brand new event series on Thursday nights that will kick off June 12.
A counterpart to the Shaggin’ on the Cooper series, which is open to all ages on select Saturday nights, Thursday Night Boogie is intended for adults ages 21 and up and will be held the Thursday prior to each Shaggin’ event. Thursday Night Boogie will be held on June 12, July 17, and Aug. 14. The event will begin at 6 p.m.
The Mount Pleasant Pier will be rockin’ with the sounds of DJ Jim Bowers spinning a variety of unforgettable oldies, beach music classics, and line dancing hits. Best of all, the event is held at the foot of the 1250-foot-long pier next to Memorial Waterfront Park, the perfect spot to catch cool breezes, beautiful scenery, and views of Charleston Harbor and the Ravenel Bridge.
“Shaggin’ on the Cooper has become an extremely popular dance series, and we felt there was a need for additional events at the Mount Pleasant Pier to support this demand,” said Matt Rosebrock, festival and event manager for the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission.
“Thursday Night Boogies will also follow the format of the Moonlight Mixers,” said Rosebrock. Moonlight Mixers, normally held at the Folly Beach Fishing Pier, have been postponed for the season while that pier undergoes a maintenance project.
Beverages will be available for purchase on the pier during Thursday Night Boogie, and food will be available for sale in the Mount Pleasant Pier’s River Watch Café (not included in ticket price). Gates open at 6 p.m. and music will continue until 10 p.m.
