[JAMES ISLAND, June 3, 2014] – Over the weekend, the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) proudly opened a new Spray Play area at popular James Island County Park.

The new play area, which features not only sprinklers and other water spray attractions for children, also offers shaded areas and plenty of seating for parents and guardians. The new attraction replaces the former Spray Play that originally opened in 1989.

The new Spray Play’s sprinklers and attractions are set on a computer sequence to cycle water through the features at various times, making the experience fun and different each time. Smaller sprinklers are offered for younger children on one end of the structure, and larger sprinklers intended for ages 5-12 on the other end. Made of Pebbleflex, the area’s multi-colored play surface is comfortable and safe for water play.

The Spray Play area is located within James Island County Park, near the park’s picnic center. The design was intended to match the area’s nearby playground.

Access to the Spray Play is included with general admission to James Island County Park, which is just $1 per person. The Spray Play is open every day from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., now through Labor Day.

James Island County Park is currently open 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
