17th Annual Palmetto Pump & USA Climbing Competition at the Climbing Wall March 22
(CHARLESTON, SC) -- On Saturday, March 22, James Island County Park will host the largest outdoor climbing competition in the Southeast - the Palmetto Pump & USA Climbing Competition. Each year, the competition attracts climbers throughout the region, all scaling the park’s 50-foot tall climbing wall that features over 4,500 square feet of climbing space.
Held in conjunction with USA Climbing, this annual event is designed for climbers of all ages and abilities and no competition experience is necessary. The competition is open to ages 4 and up, and categories are determined by age and gender. Sign up today -- space is limited!
Not a climber but interested in watching? The competition is free for spectators with the general $1 per person park admission fee. Come witness this show of strength, balance and endurance from some of the best climbers in the region. The Palmetto Pump & USA Climbing Competition plays host to 60+ climbers from all around the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern United States. Cheer on your local climbers, as well as the park’s own youth climbing team - Team Charleston - right here at their hometown wall!
Registration is from 8- 9 a.m. The competition will take place from 9:30 a.m. through 2:00 p.m. Competitor registration on or after March 10 is $45. Those who sign up prior to March 10 will save $5. Participants not registered with USA Climbing will pay a $5 day membership fee to compete. Climbers ages 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult chaperone.
