[ARCHIVED] Boat Landing to be Dedicated to Former Charleston County Treasurer

[CHARLESTON COUNTY] – The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission is set to dedicate one of the agency’s boat landings to a former Charleston County Treasurer. On July 22, the County Farm Boat Landing in North Charleston will be renamed the W.O. Thomas, Jr. Boat Landing.
Mr. William Oliver “W.O.” Thomas, Jr. served Charleston County as treasurer for 28 years, from 1968-1996. A Navy World War II veteran, Mr. Thomas was born December 20, 1924 and died April 27, 2010. Even after retiring as treasurer, Mr. Thomas remained an active member of various community organizations, including the American Legion, the North Charleston Exchange Club, the Scottish Rite and Omar Shrine Temples, the Hammerton Lodge and others.
In honor of Mr. Thomas’ memory, the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission will rename the County Farm Boat Landing to the W.O. Thomas, Jr. Boat Landing. A dedication ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 22 at the boat landing site, located on Bridgeview Drive off of Leeds Avenue in North Charleston.
Officials scheduled to speak at the dedication ceremony will include Charleston County Council Chairman Teddie E. Pryor, Sr. and Vice Chairman J. Elliott Summey.
