STEAMBOAT BOAT LANDING TEMPORARILY CLOSED DURING ROAD REPAIRS
[Edisto Island – February 2019] – The Steamboat Boat Landing on Edisto Island will temporarily close to all users due to repairs on Steamboat Landing Road. The only vehicle access to the boat landing is via Steamboat Landing Road.
Construction on the road could begin as early as March 4, and the road will close immediately once construction starts. According to Matthew Fountain, Technical Programs Manager for Charleston County Public Works, the repairs will take three months. The Steamboat Boat Landing will open after the road construction is completed.
The scope of the road repairs include:
- Installing new bridge abutments and wingwalls
- Installing new caps on the bulkhead wall that forms the causeway
- Strengthening road material on the section through the marsh
Steamboat Boat Landing, located on Edisto Island, provides access to Steamboat Creek. The Dawhoo Boat landing on Edisto Island with access to the Intracoastal Waterway and Dawhoo River is open and available to use as an alternative launch site. Charleston County Parks maintains 19 public boat landings throughout Charleston County.
