[ARCHIVED] KIAWAH BEACHWALKER PARK TEMPORARILY CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS

[Kiawah Island ­– January 2019] – Kiawah Beachwalker Park is temporarily closed to all visitors (including pedestrians) through early April so that the park can undergo extensive renovations and construction.

The scope of the renovations include:

  • The replacement of the boardwalk from the parking lot to the existing showers.
  • The replacement of the showers and changing rooms.
  • The addition of new ADA-compliant parking spaces and paved access pathway to the boardwalk
  • The replacement of the gatehouse and traffic improvements to the entry of the park.

Kiawah Beachwalker Park, located on the west end of Kiawah Island, offers ocean frontage and a river view, along with the only public beach access on Kiawah Island.


The mission of the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) is to improve the quality of life in Charleston County by offering a diverse system of park facilities, programs and services. The large park system features over 11,000 acres of property and includes four land parks, three beach parks, three dog parks, two landmark fishing piers, three waterparks, a historic plantation site, a skate park, 19 boat landings, a climbing wall, a challenge course, an interpretive center, an equestrian center, cottages, a campground, a marina, as well as wedding, meeting and event facilities. CCPRC also offers a wide variety of recreational services – festivals, camps, classes, programs, and much more.
