(CHARLESTON COUNTY) -- A great way to cool down during the final dog days of summer, Charleston County’s waterparks are still open through Labor Day! All three area waterparks are now open weekends only through Labor Day. The waterparks will be open on Labor Day, Sept. 4.
Fun awaits Lowcountry residents and visitors at Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission’s three waterparks - Splash Zone, Splash Island and Whirlin’ Waters Adventure Waterpark! Park hours are 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., and each waterpark offers its own unique twist to aquatic fun.
Splash Zone Waterpark, located in James Island County Park, opened a new attraction in July called the Rainforest. This themed family play complex features buckets dumping water, five slides and various sprays and misting elements. Splash Zone waterpark also offers two 200-foot-long slides, a large leisure pool and 500-foot-long lazy river for endless leisure and relaxation.
Splash Island Waterpark at Mount Pleasant Palmetto Islands County Park is tucked deep within tropical vegetation and provides hours of fun and recreation for toddlers to pre-teenage children. Enjoy a 200-foot-long body flume, activity pool, a 16-foot otter slide, a swirling water ride, and sprays, geysers, waterfalls and more.
Whirlin’ Waters Adventure Waterpark is located at North Charleston Wannamaker County Park. The largest waterpark in the Charleston area, Whirlin’ Waters features unique activities for all ages with attractions including the Big Splash Tree House, Rollin’ River lazy river, Big Kahuna wave pool, Tubular Twister slides, the Rip Tide Run mat racer slide and the Otter Bay kiddie area.
The waterparks also offer a full range of amenities including concessions, lockers for securing items, lounge chairs, showers and restrooms. Each waterpark is staffed with certified lifeguards to provide a safe experience. In an effort to support CCPRC’s stewardship initiatives, the waterparks offer composting bins and recycling bins at main concession stands.
Park admission fees vary. Waterparks are open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., and will be open weekends only from Aug. 18 through Labor Day. All three waterparks will be open on Labor Day. Splash Island will reopen Sept. 8 and Whirlin’ Waters Sept. 9 for the annual Dog Day Afternoon events, during which canines get the opportunity to explore the waterparks.
While visiting the Charleston County waterparks this summer, guests can help support a very worthy cause – helping others in the community learn how to swim. Visitors are encouraged to consider donating $1 to Charleston County Parks’ and The Parklands Foundation’s Swim For IT campaign which raises money to prevent drownings through swim instruction and water safety classes. For more information on this initiative, go to TheParklandsFoundation.org.
