[JOHNS ISLAND] – The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission invites runners to participate in the annual Lowcountry Trail Half Marathon and 5K! Mark your calendars and start training because this race will be back Saturday, Oct. 13 on the beautiful trails of Johns Island County Park.
Trail runners will likely see breathtaking fall foliage, moss-draped oaks and native wildlife as they race through scenic Johns Island trails. This race features two distances for runners to choose from: a half marathon and a 5K. Both of these races will begin at 8:30 a.m. and spectators are welcome.
Registration for the Half Marathon is $40, and registration for the 5K is $32. Registration rates will increase by 20% on race day. Move IT! Pass holders can receive discounted rates of $32 and $25 respectively. Registration fees include post-race beverages, food and live music.
Online registration ends at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, and walk-up registration will take place on race day from 7 – 8 a.m. T-shirts will be given to runners who register prior to Sept. 13. Participants ages 10-15 can register, but must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. Parent/guardian must sign waiver for participants ages 17 and under.
Want to participate in this race but don’t feel prepared? Sign up for Charleston County Parks’ run/walk clinics! Program participants will get to spend quality time with the family while simultaneously working towards their fitness goals. This clinic takes place on Saturdays from Sept. 1 – Sept. 29 from 10 – 11 a.m. at Johns Island County Park. Participants will complete the clinic by running in the Lowcountry Trail 5K race on Oct. 13. Race fees are included in program registration.
