[CHARLESTON COUNTY] – If you thought the waterparks couldn’t get any better, then think again! Splash Zone just opened a brand new attraction that offers fun and exciting elements for all ages! The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC)’s three exhilarating waterparks in the area – Splash Island, Splash Zone and Whirlin’ Waters Adventure Waterpark – are open daily through mid-August. Each waterpark offers its own unique twist to aquatic fun.

Splash Zone waterpark, located in James Island County Park, just opened their newest attraction, The Rainforest, which features a rainforest-themed family play complex complete with buckets dumping water, slides and various sprays and misting elements. This waterpark also offers other island-style play structures and two 200-foot-long slides along with a large leisure pool or lazy river for endless leisure and relaxation.

Whirlin’ Waters Adventure Waterpark is located at North Charleston Wannamaker County Park. The largest waterpark in the Charleston area, Whirlin’ Waters features unique activities for all ages with attractions including Otter Bay kiddie area, The Big Splash Tree House, Lily Pad Lagoon, Rollin’ River, Big Kahuna wave pool, Tubular Twister slides and the Rip Tide Run mat racer slide.

Splash Island waterpark at Mount Pleasant Palmetto Islands County Park is tucked deep within tropical vegetation and provides hours of fun and recreation for toddlers to pre-teenage children. Enjoy a 200-foot-long body flume, activity pool, a 16-foot otter slide, a swirling water ride, and sprays, geysers, waterfalls and more.

The waterparks also offer a full range of amenities including concessions, lockers for securing items, lounge chairs, showers and restrooms. Each waterpark is staffed with certified lifeguards to provide a safe experience. In an effort to support CCPRC’s stewardship initiatives, the waterparks offer composting bins and recycling bins at main concession stands.

Park admission fees vary. Area residents are encouraged to take full advantage of the summer with the seasonal Basic Splash Pass, which allows unlimited admission into Splash Zone and Splash Island, or the Super Splash Pass, which also allows admission into Whirlin’ Waters! New this year, Costco members can also purchase a Whirlin’ Waters discount ticket bundle pack, in store or at

Waterparks are open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., and will remain open daily through Aug. 17 and weekends only from Aug. 18 through Labor Day.
