[CHARLESTON COUNTY] – The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) is seeking candidates for several open positions in 2018.

CCPRC is seeking candidates age 16 and up for its award-winning ocean rescue lifesaving team. An informational session about CCPRC’s lifeguarding program will be held on Jan. 3 at 6 p.m. at the agency’s headquarters building, at 861 Riverland Drive on James Island.
Making a difference every day, CCPRC ocean rescue lifeguards are employed at four park locations throughout the county. In 2017, CCPRC’s ocean rescue lifeguard team performed over 20,000 preventive actions and rescued 64 patrons in distress in the water. A long-standing recipient of many accolades, CCPRC has been a United States Lifesaving Association Certified Lifeguard Agency since 1994, and each ocean rescue lifeguard is certified to the level of a South Carolina Department of Transportation Emergency Medical Responder or higher. Interested applicants should be aware that they will need to undergo training, including medical responder training, Rookie School, and Surf School in the spring, and pass physical tests including swimming and running. All training will be provided in-house. Pay begins at $13 an hour.
CCPRC is also accepting applications for other positions in 2018, including jobs in its maintenance division. The agency has a wide variety of technical skills-based maintenance employment opportunities to fill every year. These varied positions include landscaping, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and custodial opportunities. Due to equipment requirements, applicants for these maintenance positions must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
