[ARCHIVED] More Barks in your Waterparks! Dog Day Afternoon Sept. 9 & 10

Dog Day Afternoon

More Barks in Your Waterparks!

Dogs invited for end-of-season fun at Splash Island and Whirlin’ Waters Waterparks

[Mount Pleasant and North Charleston, SC] – Dogs have it hard in the summer! They can’t spend the day at the beach, they don’t have access to pools and they have all of that fur! To help, the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) is dedicating three days this summer to our furry friends by opening up the waterparks after the season ends for humans.

On Thursday, Sept. 7, from 4:30 p.m. to sunset, Splash Island Waterpark at Palmetto Islands County Park in Mount Pleasant will host its very first Yappy Hour. Beverages will be available to the owners while the dogs have their own fun splashing around the park. Advance admission is available at CharlestonCountyParks.com for $8; on-site admission, if available, will be $10 per dog.

Then on Saturday, Sept. 9, Splash Island Waterpark will reopen again to allow dogs to take a dip in the water for Dog Day Afternoon. Because of high demand for tickets at last year’s inaugural event, there will be two sessions this year, allowing more time for curious canines to explore the park. Sessions will be from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and from 1-3 p.m. Tickets are limited and are $8 in advance or $10 at the gate, if available. Owners get in free with their pets.

Pooches have one more chance to enjoy the waters at the 9th annual Dog Day Afternoon at Whirlin’ Waters Adventure Waterpark on Sunday, Sept. 10. From 12-5 p.m., dogs can play in this waterpark located at North Charleston Wannamaker County Park. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the gate. Dog-related vendors will also be on site as well as non-profit rescue groups. Pet owners are encouraged to stop by and support these great vendors.

Dogs must be up-to-date on all necessary vaccinations to enter the events at either location. To maximize canine fun, owners will not be allowed to swim or go more than ankle deep in the water all three events. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at park concession stands to help humans cool down. While in the park and for the safety of all guests, owners are encouraged to keep their dogs close at hand and in control at all times. Space for all three events is limited, so interested dogs are encouraged to sign up today at CharlestonCountyParks.com!

Both waterparks will be closed to the general public after Monday, Sept 4.

This event is brought to you by Coca-Cola, Crews Subaru, Charleston Animal Society and your Charleston County Parks. For more information or to purchase advance tickets, call (843) 795-4386 or visit CharlestonCountyParks.com.
