[JOHNS ISLAND] – On Sunday, Oct. 23 the Lowcountry Trail Half Marathon and 5K returns to scenic Mullet Hall Equestrian Center. The race, originally scheduled for Oct. 8, was pushed back two weeks due to Hurricane Matthew and the post-storm conditions that currently exist on the park’s trails. The race course will be re-routed through the park and new course maps will be available at CharlestonCountyParks.com.

Runners will have a chance to embrace the breathtaking fall foliage, moss-draped oaks and native wildlife as they make their way through beautiful Johns Island trails. Races are offered for two distances: a half marathon and a 5K. Both the Half Marathon and 5K events will begin at 8:30 a.m. Spectators are welcome.

Couple the scenic backdrop with an elaborate awards program and post-race food, and everyone wins. Participants will enjoy breakfast and cold beverages included in the price of registration.

Registration for the Half Marathon is $48 ($40 for Charleston County residents), and registration for the 5K is $34 ($28 for county residents). Move IT! pass holders receive additional discounts. Online registration is available at www.CharlestonCountyParks.com.T-shirts will be guaranteed for runners who register prior to Sept. 30.

The race is open to ages 10 and up. Ages 10-15 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone (registration and participation not required for chaperone).

Mullet Hall Equestrian Center is located at 2662 Mullet Hall Road on Johns Island, just off of River Road, and is owned and operated by the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission.
