[ARCHIVED] Special Needs Swim Night at Whirlin' Waters this Saturday (rain date)

[NORTH CHARLESTON] – Charleston County Parks are welcoming people with special needs, their families, caregivers and friends to a unique night at the waterpark! On Saturday, July 23, Whirlin’ Waters Adventure Waterpark in North Charleston will open its gates in the evening for these guests to enjoy. This event date was rescheduled from July 16, which was canceled due to inclement weather. Splash Zone Waterpark will also offer the event on the evening of Aug. 6.

This season’s second Special Needs Swim Night will take place after Whirlin’ Waters is closed to the general public, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Located in North Charleston at Wannamaker County Park, Whirlin’ Waters is the largest waterpark in the Charleston area and offers attractions for all ages. Whirlin’ Waters is home to Otter Bay kiddie pool area, the Big Splash Tree House, Lily Pad Lagoon toddler play area, Rollin’ River lazy river, the Big Kahuna wave pool, and the Tubular Twister slide complex. Some attractions have minimum height restrictions.

Splash Zone Waterpark on James Island will be offering the season’s third Special Needs Swim Night on Aug. 6 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Splash Zone is located within James Island County Park. This popular park that brings the Caribbean to Charleston with island-style play structures and two 200-foot-long slides. Guests can spend the evening relaxing in the large leisure pool or floating endlessly on the lazy river.

Lifeguards will be on duty throughout the evening. Admission to Special Needs Swim Night at Whirlin’ Waters is $9 per person attending. Splash Zone’s Special Needs Swim Night will offer admission for $7. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the waterpark. To purchase advance tickets, visit or call 843-795-4386.

Whirlin’ Waters and Splash Zone are traditionally open for the general public from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
