[CHARLESTON COUNTY] – The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) is encouraging the community to move their fitness routines out of the stuffy gym and into the fresh air of the county parks! And the best way to take advantage of it all is with the brand new Move IT! Pass.
Charleston County Parks is kicking off 2016 with fitness programming guaranteed to get heart rates up and bodies moving. Once thought of solely as seasonal programs, there is a growing list of year-round programs at county park locations including Walk and Restore, Yin Yoga, and Yoga Therapy.
“Outdoor activity need not be limited to a specific season, especially in Charleston,” said Allison Foster, CCPRC’s Fitness and Wellness Program Manager. “Plus, commitment to a healthy lifestyle is a daily process. We are here to support that commitment day in and day out with structured fitness and wellness opportunities.”
Led by restorative yoga professionals, Walk and Restore offers a balanced mix of walking and yoga, held year-round Monday and Thursday mornings at beautiful Caw Caw Interpretive Center in Ravenel, and at McLeod Plantation Historic Site on James Island. This spring will mark the launch of Walk and Restore at Palmetto Islands County Park in Mount Pleasant, bringing the popular program offering to three distinct areas of the county.
Starting the week of Feb. 29, three county parks will offer 10K run/walk clinics. At these balanced training clinics, professional coaches help participants gain confidence and develop skills faster, easier and injury free alongside other participants aiming to do the same. Run/Walk Your Way to a 10K is seven weeks and includes registration for the Mullet Haul 5/10K on April 23. Sessions are held Monday and Wednesday mornings at James Island County Park, Tuesday and Thursday mornings at Wannamaker County Park, and Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Palmetto Islands County Park.
