For generations, enslaved Africans and their descendants labored in plantation kitchens, mixing the recipes and traditions passed down from their African ancestors with foods available in America. Many of the Lowcountry's popular food dishes can trace their roots back to enslaved cooks on Sea Island plantations like McLeod Plantation. Come explore the history behind some of the Lowcountry's most popular dishes.
