James Island County Park offers a comfortable, full-service camping experience just minutes from historic downtown Charleston and area beaches. Nestled within the scenic 643-acre park, this well-appointed campground is ideal for RVers, tent campers, and families looking for both convenience and a peaceful outdoor retreat.

Campers enjoy spacious pull-thru RV sites (up to 80 feet) with 20/30/50-amp service and full hookups, along with primitive campsites for a more traditional camping experience. The campground features modern bathhouses, paved roads, picnic tables, grills and fire rings, and accessible sites to ensure comfort for all guests.
On-site amenities make extended stays easy and enjoyable, including a full-service campground store, laundry facilities, free Wi-Fi, dump station, and propane, ice, and firewood sales. An activity center and 24-hour staffed office add convenience and peace of mind throughout your stay.

Primitive Tent Camping

Up to 35 people per site. Each site has a stone fire pit and grill, a prep table, and four picnic tables.

The Holiday Festival of Lights is held two Fridays before Thanksgiving - December 31.
Add 14% Accommodations Tax to all rates and $5 non-refundable transaction/reservation fee per site. No discounted rates for primitive group camping. Active-duty/retired military & seniors 60+ may receive 10% off listed fees.

Make your reservation online or call 843-795-4386. Reservations cannot be made through email. Advance reservations are strongly recommended and may be made up to one year prior to your arrival date. Full payment is due at the time the reservation is made. We do not offer long-term stays and have a maximum stay of 28 nights.

Cancellations made 15 or more days in advance will incur a $10 cancellation fee. Cancellations made 14 or less days in advance will incur a one-night cancellation fee.

Campground & Cottages
Is cable available in the campground or cottages?
Cable is not available. Each cottage has satellite TV, and there is satellite TV in the Activity Center for cottage and campground guests to use.

Yes! We have photos of each campsite available in our Campground gallery.
What does full hook-up include?
Each full hook-up site has a sewer connection, water spigot, and 20/30/50 amp electric connections. These sites also have a picnic table and fire ring. Wireless internet is available throughout the campground.
How late can I check-in?
Check-in is anytime after 1 p.m. for campsites and anytime after 4 p.m. for cottages. The registration office closes at 8 p.m., and a ranger will be on duty all night to assist with late check-ins. There is a call box at the front of the registration building for guests to use to call the ranger.
Are golf carts allowed in the park?
Golf carts are permitted at the campground and on the roadways within James Island County Park. All golf cart drivers must have a valid driver’s license and insurance. Golf carts are not permitted on park trails, paved or unpaved. Campers with golf carts are not permitted to drive their golf carts into the overflow or primitive areas.
