Internships
Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission internships give students the opportunity to gain real-world, educational experience while working in a diverse and engaging parks and recreation setting. Opportunities are offered over a 12-week period through the summer. Applicants should be college juniors or above, actively pursuing a relevant degree, and recommended by their college or university.

Internships with Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission are structured as a mutually beneficial relationship. Internships provide on-site work experience that is directly related to a career goal or field of interest. There will be an emphasis on learning and professional development, including mentoring interns who function as an employee with the agency. Interns will receive a quality experience in their field from capable professionals. The agency also benefits from the internship by obtaining the services of skilled personnel with new ideas and perspectives.
Interns are directly supervised by CCPRC staff and will receive professional experience in their field. Interns will receive exposure to aspects outside of their area of expertise through staff and commission meetings, group activities with other interns, and day-to-day park and recreation operations. Schedules are determined by supervisors and may vary to include weekends and nights based on needs.

Based on the needs of the agency and requirements of the student’s school, interns may be asked to complete a special project. If the project is issued through CCPRC, the candidate will work directly with their supervisor. If the project is required by the school, the student will work closely with the school representative and CCPRC direct supervisor.

Summer internship applications will be reviewed through February 28. Applications submitted after that date may be considered if positions are still open.

Interns are paid $16.75 per hour and work approximately 37.5 to 40 hours or more per week.

To be eligible, applicants must be currently enrolled in and attending a college or university and taking classes toward earning either a bachelor’s or master’s degree. We are seeking students who are at least in their third year of school and have had some specific upper level course work related to their major. Applicants must also be recommended by their school.

Charleston County Parks has an agency dress code determined by the area in which you will be working. Your direct supervisor or agency intern coordinator will provide more detailed information upon agreement of internship.

Housing is not provided, but we are happy to provide contacts in the area and other resources for you to find a place for the summer.
Each intern is required to provide their own reliable transportation to and from their assigned work locations. CCPRC does not offer transportation, although there are agency vehicles available for check-out to those with a valid driver’s license who are traveling for a specific work-related purpose.
Interns are responsible for providing their own meals. Interns receive a 20% discount on food items purchased at CCPRC food concessions and on sundry items purchased at a CCPRC gift shop.
