Portable Pool Fundraising Campaign
The Charleston County Parks Foundation is launching a campaign to fund a new portable pool, and your support can help make it possible.
Since 2013, Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission has used a custom-built portable pool to bring free swim lessons directly to children in some of the most rural areas of Charleston County, where access to public aquatic facilities is limited or nonexistent. Many of these communities are surrounded by creeks, rivers, and saltwater marshes, yet families often lack the resources and opportunities needed for children to learn critical water safety skills.
Each summer, the 16’ x 24’ portable pool travels to Jane Edwards Elementary School and Lincoln Community Center, providing free swim instruction to children ages 5 - 14. During the two-week program, participants receive multiple lessons designed to build confidence, improve swimming ability, and teach lifesaving water safety skills. In 2025 alone, 356 children learned to swim through this program.
Now, after more than a decade of service, the portable pool is nearing the end of its lifespan. The Foundation is working to raise $125,000 to fund a replacement pool and ensure this life-changing program continues for years to come.
Every donation helps expand access to swim education, reduce barriers for underserved communities, and create safer futures for local children. Together, we can continue opening doors to confidence, opportunity, and lifelong skills.
