[ARCHIVED] Caw Caw Features Family Artisan Series


[CHARLESTON] – This holiday season, create special family memories and works of art at your County Parks!

A homemade gift is always a cherished present during the holidays. Families are invited to let nature provide inspiration for their hand-made creations through the Family Artisan Series, which kicks off on Saturday, Dec. 1. Held at Caw Caw Interpretive Center on select weekend dates this winter, these programs will provide all materials and guide families through the process of creating a nature-inspired masterpiece.

Best of all, the programs are just $10 per participant, or $8 for Charleston County residents (CCR). Register today at www.ccprc.com before these programs fill up! The Family Artisan Series is for ages 8 and up, and a parent chaperone is required for those ages 15 and under. The Family Artisan series is as follows:

Saturday, Dec. 1 - Pine Needle Baskets
Caw Caw Interpretive Center, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Turn the needles from our native Longleaf Pine into a beautiful and useful work of art. As we coil and weave we will discuss ecology, historical uses, and the decline of Longleaf Pine forests. Course #28919
Fee: $10/$8 CCR Discount Age: 8 & up

Saturday, Dec. 8 - Taper Candle Dipping
Caw Caw Interpretive Center, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Make hand-dipped candles under the oaks at Caw Caw Interpretive Center. We'll use beeswax and other natural materials as we discuss the history of the site. Course #28891
Fee: $10/$8 CCR Discount Age: 8 & up

Saturday, Dec. 15 - Fire and Clay
Caw Caw Interpretive Center, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Since the dawn of time, humans have been captivated by the beauty of both fire and jewelry. Warm yourself by the fire and learn how to turn lumps of clay into decorative beads. Course #28892
Fee: $10/$8 CCR Discount Age: 8 & up

Saturday, Jan. 5 - Gourd Bird Houses
Caw Caw Interpretive Center, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Historically, this fascinating plant has been used for many things, including musical instruments, vessels and bird houses. Paint a gourd into a beautiful bird house as we learn more about these fantastic fruits. Course #28890
