CCPRC’s Josh Hall Awarded for Excellence in Instruction

[CHARLESTON, SC] --   Joshua Hall of the Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission (CCPRC) was announced on Nov. 3 as the 2012 recipient of the prestigious American Canoe Association’s (ACA) Excellence in Instruction Award. Hall was honored at the ACA Awards Ceremony & Banquet, which was held at the Tides Folly Beach hotel in conjunction with the National Paddlesports Conference & SUP Summit.

Each year, the ACA recognizes a select group of individuals and organizations who have illustrated exemplary leadership, service, and dedication to paddlesports. Josh Hall serves CCPRC as Outdoor Recreation Program Manager, is chair of the ACA’s Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Discipline Committee, and is a member of the Safety Education & Instruction Council. In the winter of 2010, Hall spearheaded the process of developing a nationwide curriculum for instructing SUP, and created a pilot program for certifying instructors. The program was soon approved by the ACA, and instructors across the country began seeking their official certification.
According to the ACA, Hall’s educational and instructional contributions to the association and paddlesports as a whole have been exemplary. In addition to developing the curriculum, Hall has taught a significant number of skills courses and instructor certification courses for both coastal kayaking and stand up paddleboarding, and served as mentor for Instructor Trainers nationwide.

Founded in 1880, The American Canoe Association (ACA) is a national nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization serving the broader paddling public by providing education related to all aspects of paddling; stewardship support to help protect paddling environments; and sanctioning of programs and events to promote paddlesport competition and recreation. The ACA has over 20,000 members, and 300 paddling clubs and affiliated organizations.  The ACA sponsors over 1,400 events each year, including 200 races.
