Junior Lifeguard Program Junior Lifeguard Program (ages 10-16) This program is designed to help youth become more knowledgeable about our aquatic environment and its hazards while learning and participating in the physical demands of the job of a lifeguard. This program offers kids already comfortable with their swimming skills a chance to develop further in the area of water safety while increasing their knowledge of the ocean environment. Junior lifeguards will be actively involved with CCPRC beach and waterpark lifeguards, learning the basics of aquatic rescue. This is a very physically demanding program where students are required to participate in running, ocean swimming and other related lifeguarding drills. Program Content Teamwork Rescue equipment training First aid skills Waterpark visit Physical training Lifeguard competitions Environmental awareness Swim Tests Junior Lifeguards must participate in buoy swims, sand runs, and other unique physical activities in and around the ocean. Because the program requires at least a basic swimming ability, all applicants who have not previously attended the Junior Lifeguard Program must complete the following: Swim 75 yards continuously and competently Swim underwater for 10 feet Returning participants will not be required to take the pre-test unless enrolled in the Advanced session. Pleasant Palmetto Islands County Park in Splash Island at 9am on May 22 and June 5 and at James Island County Park in Splash Zone on May 29 and June 12. Students must have completed at least one previous session of the Junior Lifeguard Program to be eligible for participation. Participants must also pass a 250-yard swim test prior to first day of the sessions.
