Teen Venture Camp

2009 Summer Day Camps

Teen Venture Camp (ages 13-16) lets you choose your adventure and live it to the fullest! Teen Venture Camp takes kids for a week and immerses them into the outdoors. Teens will work together and live cooperatively, be the leader of the group for a day, make group decisions, share responsibility for cooking and cleaning, practice outdoor skills, and have plenty of fun. Teen Venture campers will be on a 4 or 6 night sleep away trip.  Meals and equipment are provided.  There is a 4:1 camper to staff ratio, with 8 campers per session.

 

IMPORTANT HEALTH INFORMATION:  To handle the stress of these outdoor activities, campers should be in reasonable physical condition.  A detailed medical form must be completed and submitted prior to attending. 

 

 

Whitewater Kayak

5-day course

Take a new look at rivers from the wild side.  We start by building the basics: strokes, ferries, eddy-turns, peel-outs, and swimming the rapids, then progress to advanced skills development, including surfing, rope throws, and river etiquette.  Challenge yourself on some of North Carolina’s classic rivers!  This trip will base-camp at Tsali Recreation Area near Bryson City, North Carolina.

Whitewater Canoe & Rock Climb Adventure

7-day course

This camp will provide the ultimate adventure experience for teens by combining rock climbing and whitewater canoeing.  The mountains and rivers of western North Carolina will challenge students as they develop minimum impact camping skills, environmental awareness, and long lasting relationships.  This trip will be in the mountains of South and North Carolina.

Mountain Bike

5-day course

Teens will spend the week camping in western North Carolina, home of some of the hottest mountain bike trails on the east coast!  Our experienced and friendly staff will teach the fundamentals of mountain biking, and we’ll have lots of time to experience the trails.  This trip will base-camp at Tsali Recreation Area near Bryson City, North Carolina.

Backpack

Instructors will teach teens how to pack food and gear for a backpacking trip in the Appalachian Mountains.  Campers will learn minimum impact skills, wilderness leadership, how to prepare their own food, and learn map and compass skills. This trip will be in the North or South Carolina mountains.

Whitewater Kayak & Mountain Bike Adventure

7-day course

Teens will spend their days camping, learning, and developing paddling and mountain biking skills.  We’ll start with basic kayaking and mountain biking instruction, then progress to more challenging rivers and trails of the mountains of North Carolina.  Challenge yourself and get the opportunity to experience new adventures and connect to the outdoors.  This trip will base-camp at Tsali Recreation Area near Bryson City, North Carolina.

Rock Climb

5-day course

This adventure will take you to the vertical edge of climbing.  Challenge yourself at the next level and experience the rugged and ancient beauty of one of the oldest mountain ranges in the United States!  Minimum impact camping skills, backpacking, and rock climbing will be taught. This trip will base-camp in the mountains of North Carolina.

*Charleston County residents contribute to the development of our county park system through property taxes, therefore a discounted rate is available to them.
