Teen Venture Camp


2010 Summer Camp

Teen Venture Camp (ages 13-16) Choose your adventure and live it to the fullest! Teen Venture Camp takes youth and immerses them in the outdoors. Teens will work together and live cooperatively, make group decisions, share responsibility for cooking and cleaning, practice outdoor living skills, and have plenty of fun. Campers will be overnight tent camping at their outdoor destination; meals and equipment are provided. Minimum enrollment required two weeks prior to the first day of camp. CCPRC operates this program under a special use permit with the Nantahala and Pisgah National Forests.  There is a 4:1 camper to staff ratio, with 8 campers per session.
 
IMPORTANT HEALTH INFORMATION: To handle the stress of these outdoor activities, campers should be in reasonable physical condition. A detailed medical form must be completed and submitted prior to attending.


Rock Climb 
This adventure will take you to the vertical edge. Experience the rugged beauty of the wilderness and challenge yourself on some exciting rock climbs! Minimum impact camping skills, backpacking, and rock climbing will be taught. This trip will base-camp in North Carolina.

Backpack & Whitewater Canoe Adventure 
This 7-day course will provide the ultimate adventure experience for teens by combining whitewater canoeing and rock climbing. Students will be challenged by the mountains and rivers of western North Carolina as they develop minimum impact camping skills, wilderness leadership, environmental awareness, and paddling skills. This trip will be in the mountains of North Carolina.

Mountain Bike 
Teens will spend the week camping in western North Carolina, home of some of the hottest mountain bike trails on the east coast! Our experienced and friendly staff will teach the fundamentals of mountain biking and we'll have lots of time to practice. This trip will base-camp in the Tsali Recreation Area near Bryson City, North Carolina.

Whitewater Kayak - Week of Rivers 
Take a new look at rivers from the wild side. We start by building the basics: strokes, ferries, eddy-turns, peel-outs, and swimming the rapids, then progress to advanced skills development, including surfing, rope throws, and river etiquette. Challenge yourself on a couple of North Carolina's classic rivers! This trip will be in the mountains of North Carolina.

Rock Climb & Mountain Bike Adventure 
Teens will spend 7 days camping, learning, and developing climbing and mountain biking skills. We'll start our venture as we become one with the rock and progress to our two wheeling adventure on the single track trails in the mountains of North Carolina. Challenge yourself and get the opportunity to experience new adventures and connect to the outdoors. This trip will be in the mountains of North Carolina.

Outdoor Leadership Course 
This 5-day course will provide the ultimate adventure experience as teens will travel in canoes for an expedition on Fontana Lake in North Carolina. Students will be challenged to become leaders while developing minimum impact camping skills, navigation skills, environmental awareness, and paddling skills. This trip will be in the mountains of North Carolina.

*Charleston County residents contribute to the development of our county park system through property taxes, therefore a discounted rate is available to them.
