Summer Camp

Thank you for spending the week with us, and we look forward to guiding your child through many fun, enjoyable, and educational activities! Our staff is committed to providing campers with opportunities to learn by doing and to experience personal success. We strive to promote self-confidence, decision-making skills, social skills, and environmental awareness in each youth. Our camp philosophy de-emphasizes competition and focuses on the needs and growth of both the individual camper and the overall group. The following information will help you and your camper have an enjoyable week at camp. Please read all of the information thoroughly, and if you have any questions, please feel free to call us at (843) 795-4386.

Weather

Camp activities are held in outdoor settings. In general, these activities will be held rain or shine. Please plan accordingly and be prepared for anticipated conditions.

Risk

All outdoor activities, including those offered by CCPRC, have inherent risks which include personal injury or property loss. In addition, there is a necessary level of physical health required, therefore you will be required to complete and sign the Camp Waiver which acknowledges your understanding and acceptance of these risks, provides medical information, and waives your rights for claims of negligence.

Required Documents

You can mail your waiver to Park & Program Services, PO Box 14469, Charleston, SC 29422; fax to 843-406-7583; or scan and email to e-mail.

Personal Medications
If your child requires any medication (allergy, asthma, hyperactivity, etc.), it must be sent to camp in the original prescription bottle clearly labeled with the camper’s name and the physician’s instructions. The staff will help dispense medications according to these instructions. Parents/Guardians will need to fill out our Camp Medication Form, and speak with the counselor personally on the first day of the camp session to confirm instructions.

Drop-Off/Pick-Up Guidelines
For the safety of campers and other park visitors, please observe the posted speed limits of 10-15mph and the pedestrian crosswalks within the park when you drop-off and pick-up your child.
  • Drop-off: 8-8:30am
  • Pick-up: 4:30-5:30pm
  • Directions will be posted at the park entrance gate regarding the location of the camp in your park. The parent or legal guardian must sign in all campers.
  • Campers will only be released to individuals listed on the child's Camp Waiver. This will require the presentation of acceptable identification to our camp staff from those persons registered to pick up the camper. Release may be granted to others if a signed written note is furnished or if the parent telephones camp staff specifically requesting that the child may be picked-up by someone not previously identified on the Camp Waiver. Persons authorized to pick up the camper must sign the camper out each day with signature and time.
  • Under no circumstance will campers be able to sign themselves out.
  • A $15 penalty fee will be added to your account for every 15 minutes after 5:30pm that your child is at camp. E.g., if your child is picked up between 5:31pm and 5:45pm, you will be charged $15.
  • If you need to take your child from the program before the close of the day during full-day services or summer programs, please call camp staff.

Teen Venture Campers
Teen Venture Campers need to be dropped-off on the first day and picked-up on the last day of the scheduled camp during normal Drop-off and Pick-up times.

Special Needs
Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to utilize county park facilities and to register for recreation programs. Reasonable accommodations will be made on an individual basis. Once registered, the Camp Director will contact you to discuss your needed accommodations, or you may contact the Camp Director prior to registration. Please allow at least two weeks notice to request accommodations.

Discipline Policy
Our rules are established to safeguard every individual from injury as well as to maintain a safe and positive environment. If a discipline problem occurs, staff will use a "time-out" or a similar technique until the child is able to behave in an acceptable manner. At no time will our staff yell, use sarcasm, or corporal punishment with any of the children. Positive reinforcement will be used to encourage participants to abide by the rules of the camp. For the safety and well-being of other campers, children who are unable to behave appropriately after repeated attempts may be removed from camp at the parents’ expense and with no refund issued. Our discipline policy can be discussed with you and your child at the time of registration if desired.

Lost & Found
All clothing, lunch bags, jackets, and any other items should be clearly labeled with your child's full name in permanent ink. The camp staff will make every reasonable effort to keep track of campers' things, but are not ultimately responsible for such losses. In the event that things are lost or misplaced, camp staff will keep a lost and found box for these items at the drop-off/pick-up site.

Scholarships
Full and partial scholarships are available. Scholarships will be awarded based on economic need and will be evaluated on an individual basis. Applicants must submit a letter of request as well as one of the following: a copy of their 2012 Tax Return or official verification of the child’s free and reduced school lunch status. All requests must be postmarked by May 1, 2013 to be considered. If you have questions please contact the Camp Director at (843) 762-2172.
